About This Project

Elizabeth Fields has served as staff planner to the City of Mason since 2014. With this role she meets with developers on potential development projects, reviews site plans, writes staff reports, presents to planning commission, and answers daily questions from residents and potential developers.

In 2019, the city retained MDC to evaluate and update their downtown zoning regulations. The city currently has a downtown zoning overlay and enforces historic design guidelines in the central business district. Many of these guidelines, though, are no longer appropriate or applicable for the infill and redevelopment projects that Downtown Mason is experiencing.

This project is currently ongoing but it is anticipated that the historic design guidelines and overlay district will be revoked and new zoning regulations will be drafted with the intention to streamline the development review process, while still ensuring quality development occurs in Downtown Mason.
