Dublin

  • Adopted: In Progress
  • Client: City of Dublin, OH
  • Project Type: Historic District Guidelines & Zoning Regulations

About This Project

The City of Dublin, Ohio is a thriving community located northwest of Columbus, Ohio. Dublin has undergone tremendous transformation in the last four decades with the population growing from approximately 700 in 1970 to over 47,000 in 2018. Despite this growth, Dublin’s historic core largely retains the character, scale, and feel of a traditional village center.

In 2018 the city retained MDC to assist with drafting new historic zoning regulations and new historic district guidelines. The updated guidelines and code regulations were informed by a number of public meetings and stakeholder meetings to ensure that the regulations were updated to match residents expectations, while still ensuring realistic feasibility.

The guidelines are focused on the more qualitative standards including architectural types and styles, guidance for rehabilitation, new construction, and infill design standards. The code regulations are focused on the quantitative standards including permitted uses, development standards, architectural and design requirements, signage and lighting requirements, parking minimum and maximums, and the review and approval process.
